AM VILAKAZI TAU ATTORNEYS was established in 1997 by a team of enterprising media and corporate lawyers.
Over time AM VILAKAZI TAU ATTORNEYS has, through continuing research and further study, extended its capacity to other fields such as business development services, business planning, workshop facilitation, employee team building, labour relations training, postal regulation, policy development in various spheres of governance, drafting of regulations, general legal practice and all forms of litigation. We are a boutique law firm and offer our clients specialist services in a select number of areas of law.
Our clientele includes existing and aspirant broadcasters and telecommunications operators, government departments both at provincial and national levels, and corporate clients for whom we do purely legal commercial work, municipalities and individual clients to whom we render a range of services.
In the past we also offered services to the telecommunications regulator in South Africa, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), Southern African Broadcasters Association (SABA) and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), (www.macra.org.mw) where we offered specialist legal and regulatory policy support services to the said agencies. We count amongst our clients institutions of the calibre of national government departments, provincial government departments, the South African Post Office Limited, AfricanLife Assurance (Pty) Ltd, Thuthukani Information Technology Services (Pty) Ltd, and WorldSpace (Southern Africa) (Pty) Ltd, whom we have and continue to serve with pride and distinction.
Our labour law training services cover the following areas:
- Conciliation procedures
- Arbitration case preparation
- Preparation of witnesses and evidence
- Presentation of evidence
- Evaluation of evidence
- Opening and closing statements
- Presentation of argument in mitigation/aggravation of penalty.
On account of the success of our training programmes, we have developed labour relations training capacity and continue to offer this to institutions that wish to expand the internal knowledge base to empower their managers at all levels to deal with and manage discipline in the workplace. We monitor developments in this field carefully so as to regularly update our training materials to ensure that our programmes deal with current trends in discipline management and the practice of labour law.
We have and continue to provide services to individual clients in a variety of instances such as labour, contract drafting, commercial litigation and civil matters. We are the official legal advisors and representatives of SAMDEF (Southern African Media Development Fund based in Gaborone, Botswana), which funds media projects in the SADC Region. We provide them with services involving the drafting of standard business loan contracts, financial securities, performing due diligence analyses on small and medium size enterprises seeking financial support in the form of short term and medium term loans, and litigation involving recoveries and foreclosures..
The Gauteng Legislature engaged us to research and compile a manual setting out key decisions of the various presiding officers of portfolio committees. We studied Hansard Reports going back to 1995 and developed a Precedents Booklet for the Legislature. This work was finalised within the agreed time frames. We have been advised that such was the quality of the manual that the national assembly and 4 other provincial legislatures seek to utilise it as a basis for drawing up similar manuals of their own.
We comply with all laws applicable to our business and profession. These include labour laws, Attorneys Act and tax laws. We are also a registered VAT vendor.
